417-451-3743 ext. 4

The Newton County Health Department has been offering WIC services since 1982 for the residents of Newton County and the surrounding area.

WIC provides many services that improve health outcomes, including a supplemental food package tailored to each participant, nutrition education, family nutrition counseling (including breastfeeding promotion and support), and referrals to community resources and other healthcare and public assistance agencies.

Who is eligible for WIC?

Women and children who meet income guidelines, including women who are pregnant, up to 6 months postpartum, or postpartum women who are breastfeeding, as well as all children under 5 years old. To find out if you are eligible for WIC, please stop by our office or give us a call.

WIC is . . .

A nutrition program working to improve the health and nutrition of women and children.

An education program focusing on balanced meals, rethinking beverages, and healthy lifestyles.

A community of support for parents, guardians, and their children.

Other services include screenings for anemia, growth monitoring, and breastfeeding education and support.

WIC is not . . .

A welfare program or just a bag of groceries. The positive effects of nutrition education and counseling can last a lifetime for an entire family.

Support just for moms. Fathers play a vital role in the lives and health of their children.
